Best Flu and Cold Remedies

365 motivational quotes health and fitness

Even though you may be tempted by the temptation to use over-the–counter medications for a flu or cold, rest is most likely the best option. Getting up to move around will only aggravate the symptoms of a sore throat and make you feel worse. Resting is a good way to let your body recover from the fever and body aches that come with a flu or cold. One surprising natural cure for cold and flu is garlic, which boosts your immune system. Garlic is a natural remedy for flu and colds. Garlic is rich in anti-inflammatory compounds and can fight the virus that causes colds.

Soup of chicken

Researchers from Nebraska investigated the effects of chicken stock on white blood cell activity, specifically the movement of neutrophils. They found that the soup had an inhibitory action on neutrophil movement, which could decrease symptoms of a cold. Also, the soup inhibited neutrophil migration, which could reduce symptoms of a cold. Researchers believe the soup may have medicinal properties. However, more research is necessary to determine its effects.

Honey

Honey is a popular and tasty remedy for flu and cold symptoms. It can be used as a beverage, or added to warm liquids to relieve congestion and soothe the throat. One teaspoon of honey can be mixed with a glass of warm water to soothe flu symptoms. Honey's anti-inflammatory natural components can help to reduce the severity of cold symptoms. A teaspoon of cinnamon can be added to your drink to increase its effectiveness.

Garlic

Raw garlic can be eaten, but you also have the option to take a supplement containing garlic. Both raw and cooked garlic are good for flu and cold remedies. They can improve immunity and alleviate cold symptoms. Besides, proper rest and hydration will speed your recovery. Your immune system may also be boosted by taking a zinc supplement. Raw and aged garlic are the most effective. There is no scientific evidence that garlic can cure the common cold and flu.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C has been around for decades but has not always been a great remedy for colds. Linus Pauling, a Nobel Prize-winning Chemist, believed that high levels of vitamin C could prevent colds. However, this claim was later disproved. Researchers are now confident that vitamin-C can help to decrease the frequency and length of colds. This is supported by evidence.

Hot showers

Hot showers can relieve symptoms of the flu and cold, especially if you are already suffering from dehydration. Hot showers release mucus and help to feel better. If you do not have a shower, try creating a mini sauna in your bathroom. Inhaling the steam makes you feel instantly better.

Drinking lots and lots of fluids

Drinking plenty of fluids is a great way to get rid of flu symptoms. For one thing, proper hydration is critical for the body to use medications more effectively, resulting in faster relief of symptoms. Adults should consume 6-8 glasses of liquids per day. If you have symptoms, however, you can increase your water intake. Electrolyte enhancement drinks can be another great option. These beverages replenish fluids that have been lost and can prevent symptoms becoming worse.

Vitamin C may reduce the severity of a flu-like illness such as a cold or flu.

According to a recent study, vitamin C intake of 6-8 grams daily can reduce the duration and severity of colds and flu by up to 20%. The optimal vitamin C dose has yet to be determined. This is because there are no definitive dose-response relationships in existing studies. Additionally, many trials have shown that higher doses of vitamin C are more effective than trials involving only a single dose of 1 gram of vitamin C.

FAQ

How do you get enough vitamins?

Most of your daily vitamin requirements can be met by diet alone. Supplements may be necessary if you are not getting enough of a particular vitamin. Multivitamin supplements can be taken that contain all the vitamins you need. You can also get individual vitamins from your local pharmacy.

Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about your nutritional intake. For example, dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, kale, collard greens, turnip greens, mustard greens, bok choy, romaine lettuce, arugula, and Swiss chard are rich in vitamins K and E. Other good sources include oranges, tomatoes, strawberries, cantaloupe, carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and squash.

Ask your doctor for advice if you are unsure how much vitamin to take. Based on your medical history and your current health, your doctor can recommend the correct dosage.

What can you do if your immune system is weak?

The human body consists of trillions of cells. These cells work together to form organs and tissues that perform specific functions. A cell that dies will be replaced by another. Cells communicate with one another using chemical signals called hormonal hormones. All bodily processes are controlled by hormones, including metabolism and immunity.

Hormones are chemicals secreted by glands throughout the body. They travel through the blood stream and act like messengers to control how our bodies function. Some hormones are produced internally while others are made outside of the body.

The hormone-producing glands release their contents into bloodstream. This is when hormone production starts. Once released, hormones move through the body until they reach their target organ. In some cases hormones can remain active for only a few hours. Other hormones can remain active longer, and they continue to affect the body's functionality even after leaving the bloodstream.

Some hormones can only be produced in large quantities. Others are only produced in very small quantities.

Certain hormones can only be produced at specific times in life. Estrogen is one example. It's produced in puberty, pregnancy and menopause. Estrogen aids women in developing breasts, maintaining bone density and preventing osteoporosis. It promotes hair growth as well as keeping skin soft and smooth.
